Planting 50 Million Trees in the 24 Hours, India Sets Record


The people of Uttar Pradesh, India has together to make positive changes in the global climate, which also broke the world record. On July 11, more than 800 thousand volunteers collectively work together to plant 50 million trees in a day. They all agreed to work together to create a positive climate change.

The leader of Uttar Pradesh is very open when communicating their target to break this new record, because the record previously held by Pakistan with 847 275 trees planted in 24 hours. They also stated, it is part of a broader plan, which attempts to India to participate is committed to making climate change a positive stipulated in COP21 in Paris last year.

The greenhouse gas emissions are a serious problem that occurs in rural India, especially for people who do not have access to alternative energy, whereas today, India has emissions of about three billion metric tons per year.

Overall, the Indian government has allocated 6.2 billion dollars, or around Rp 81.1 trillion for the planting of trees nationwide and make the sink forests is estimated at three billion tons in 2030.

“The world is beginning to realize that it takes a great effort to reduce carbon emissions to mitigate global climate change and Uttar Pradesh has made a good start here,” said Akhilesh Yadav, Minister of Uttar Pradesh.


In recent years, the Indian government has demonstrated their commitment to tackle some of the issues most pressing climate in the country by starting some progressive programs.

“The biggest contribution of this tree planting project is to address many major issues for India itself, such as pollution, deforestation, and land-use,” added Dr. Anit Mukherjee as the advisor of the Center for Global Development

Approximately 49.3 million saplings were planted in the project, expected to be approximately 60 percent to survive. The rest are expected to die from disease or lack of water.

The latest news from the Guinness Book of World Records, at least it takes about two months to confirm the number and declared a record recently.
